Take a break, grab your bestie, go outside, lay on the grass, look at the clouds and giggle out loud. There’s one that looks like an elephant, one a goose. Then giggle some more until you can’t stop laughing and your bladder’s going to burst. Remember those days? When you laughed with abandon? When you laughed so hard you started to cry? We need it now— our joy and our tears, from the heart, the tender heart that is ready to break. Break open! Live the connection, friend to friend, us to clouds. The heart knows the One. The One in the All. Where love is all One.
“The highest state is laughter.”
– Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
“We don’t laugh because we’re happy – we’re happy because we laugh.”
– William James
“Everybody laughs the same in every language because laughter is a universal connection.”
Looking back through
a year coming to end,
we take stock and look,
try to comprehend.
Watching from afar,
a war waged,
lives wasted,
we feel enraged.
Inflation burning,
food instability,
families’ uncertainty,
threatens sustainability.
When now we end,
we now begin,
take what we learned
to come out of our spin.
We speak of love,
faith and hope,
at times hard to accept,
but within our scope.
We look and see the love
shared in family, friend,
community, the dove
of peace that does not end.
I do believe
we are that good,
we have the ability
to be understood.
We look deep within,
to enlarge our heart,
then rise to accept
and do our part.
We ring in the new,
learn from the pain,
in opening our arms,
find the freedom we gain.
Happy New Year to all, 2023!
“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today, I am wise, so I am changing myself.”
Rumi
“Years end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on.”
Hal Borland
“And now we welcome the new year, full of things that have never been.”
Rainer Maria Rilke

My body is tired,
muscles ache, I feel
to be mired, and wish
no longer to partake.
My neck feels the pain
of driving so far, now
I need to drive again,
get me out of this car!
I drive and we meet,
my friend of many years,
always a treat; without
her I would cry many tears.
We order curry,
always the same,
trusting our routine
and the reason we came.
I sigh with my first bite,
feel my neck release,
to my toes I alight, and
could drift on a breeze.
Food, love, stories shared,
laughter and presence all
open to be aired, while once
again we dive into essence.
I stand to leave,
feeling fully refreshed,
my heart is open,
my body blessed.
The elixir of life,
a good friend indeed,
and a bowl of good curry,
now with joy I proceed.
“There is nothing like good curry.”
from Kim by Rudyard Kipling
“Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. It’s not something you learn in school. But if you haven’t learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven’t learned anything.”
Muhammad Ali
“To the world you may be just one person, but to one person you may be the world.”
Dr. Seuss
