From the Book Page: A Cover

I am delighted to announce that my latest book, Unfolding the Heart, is being printed. It has been a challenging effort these past few weeks with photo issues as well as a change in printers. Kudos goes out to the designer, David Provolo, who patiently and probably with some vexation stayed with me to the end.

The thought why am I self-publishing???, went through my mind many times. The truth is I would rather spend my time creating the book than trying to find an agent and a publisher. I am 75. How many years would it take? The second truth is control.

I enjoy creating the layout, deciding on the order of the poems, and all manner of tweaks here and there throughout the book. It all feels a part of the flow of paint on canvas and the crafting of words on a page. It is all one.

What do I miss? For the most part, I am alone in the process. I have many decisions to make—on my own. I have doubts that rise and taunt me with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th guesses as to how things should be managed. Fortunately, I have a spouse who will listen and offer support as needed. I have my friend, Eileen, who so graciously and creatively helped with the interior layout decisions. My son Brian and my daughter Laura gave me many hours towards the photos of my art.

But in the end, it is me.

I had a vulnerability dream a couple of nights ago. A dream typical for me when this emotion is heightened. The realization of it was actually a comfort. The fear that goes along with opening to others, when recognized, is fuel. I know I am on the right track.

Unfolding the Heart: A Journey Toward Coherence will be available on and after January 18, 2026. This is the day of the opening of my art exhibition and public forum to read and respond to questions.

More info to come….

New Year Blessings,

Janis
