I am sand.
Yes, water and air too,
but today I feel like sand—
crystal and sediment,
soft and fine yet enduring
in constant supply.
I have been tread upon,
footprints left to announce presence,
indentations that do not hurt
but remain as reminder.
Some small, barely a whisper,
others deep and penetrating
as if bearing great weight.
A wave of emotion
will wash the print to the sea
and leave me cleansed.
I merely wait, dependable
as shifting tide. A flow
I gratefully allow.
I do not always drift in softness.
At times I am solid, impenetrable,
able to support all that arrives
to scatter me. I give of myself
for play, rest, renewal—
for you to find your heart.
